80-90 days. 300 seeds. Full Heart Batavian Endive, also known as Escarole, produces large, thick, dark green leaves that are 10-12” in diameter and compact heads that are 10-14” wide. This is the most popular endive variety, and it is famous for adding a crunchy texture and zesty gourmet flavor to salads. In general, endive looks similar to lettuce, with large, thick green leaves that are slightly curly and turn to white at the heart, but it has a more bitter flavor. Blanching will create a milder taste by blocking the sunlight to turn the green leaves light yellow or white. It is easy to do by tying up the leaves with string to keep the head tight, or by simply covering the heads with an inverted flowerpot or something similar. Open pollinated seeds. FREE SHIPPING!
